As part of the preparatory phase of the “Mongolia Calibration” study, the background seismic noise levels of the temporary seismic stations installed in the southeastern part of Khovd aimag and the southwestern part of Gobi-Altai aimag were determined using the power spectral density technique. The results of the study indicate that the seismic noise levels at some stations are significantly higher. The elevated noise levels at stations MC11 and MC01 are attributed to human activities and the surrounding geological and tectonic conditions, respectively. The noise levels of the stations were compared with the Peterson low and high noise models, and a conclusion was drawn accordingly.
