Mongolian Journal of Strategic Studies
In 1990, as Mongolia underwent a transition to democracy and a market economy, there emerged a pressing need for rigorous scientific inquiry into political theory, international relations, and security studies. It was under these transformative conditions that the Mongolian Journal of Strategic Studies was first published, thereby laying the groundwork for the development of strategic studies in Mongolia.
The Institute for Strategic Studies publishes the Journal with the objective of advancing research in security and strategic studies, while also providing theoretical and methodological support for strategic policy formulation. As a peer-reviewed scientific publication with an ISSN, the Journal is issued in both print and digital formats, ensuring broad accessibility and readership.
Brief history of the Strategic Studies Journal:
- Initial issues were titled “Security and Developmental Issues”, and comprised of a compilation of scholarly work between 1990 and 1992;
- Later, the publication was renamed “Soyombo”, and focused primarily on military and political subjects from 1992 to 1993;
- In 1994, it attained formally certification from the Ministry of Law in 1994, beamce a quarterly publication, and was issued under a new title “Strategy Studies” until 2012;
- Since 2013, the Journal has carried the title “Strategic Studies” and has continued to be published on a regular quarterly basis.
The Mongolian Journal of Strategic Studies has been published continuously for 35 years, a testament to its enduring reputation within the Mongolian academic community. Throughout its distinguished history, the editorial board has adhered to a policy of featuring the works of both established scholars and emerging researchers, thereby contributing to the cultivation of the next generation of experts in the field. In addition, the Journal maintains an “Expert’s View” column, which addresses contemporary policy issues and presents data-driven, actionable insights for decision-makers.
Manuscripts submitted to the Mongolian Journal of Strategic Studies must meet the following criteria:
- Compliance with the Journal’s official submission guidelines;
- Originality of the work, ensuring that the article has not been previously published in any domestic or international journal;
- Adherence to ethical standards, including the absence of any violations of intellectual property rights.
Manuscripts that meet the aforementioned criteria are subjected to a peer-review process, following which the editorial board evaluates the reviewers’ assessments and makes the final decision regarding publication.
