Author Guidelines

Please read in below by English and Mongolian language.

  1. STRUCTURE OF A SCIENTIFIC ARTICLE

A scientific article shall be structured as follows:

  • 1. Title of the article
  • 2. Author name(s)
  • 3. Affiliation(s)
  • 4. Corresponding author’s e-mail address
  • 5. Abstract: The abstract must be written in English and should be between 250–300 words. It should concisely describe the objective, methodology, main results, and conclusions of the study. The abstract must clearly state the problem addressed, the theoretical and practical significance, and the novelty and contribution of the research.
  • 6. Keywords: Keywords should be listed immediately below the abstract and should not exceed five (5) terms. Keywords must reflect the core content of the article, be written in singular noun form, and be separated by commas.
  • 7. Introduction: The introduction shall present the rationale and necessity of the research, the state of previous studies, the novel aspects of the research, and the research objectives and hypotheses. The introduction should account for approximately 5% of the total manuscript length. This section should include, but is not limited to, the research objectives and hypotheses, a review of relevant literature with appropriate citations, the research problem, the scientific significance, and the innovative aspects of the proposed study.
  • 8. Materials and methods: This section shall provide a detailed description of the methodology employed in the study, including the study area, characteristics of samples (e.g., soil, water, vegetation), sampling procedures, and analytical methods applied to the samples. It should clearly describe the research methods, materials and equipment, experimental design, location and duration of the study, and analytical procedures used to obtain the results.
  • 9. Results: This section presents the findings derived from the applied methodology. Results should be clearly and objectively described and, where relevant, compared with previous studies within the scope of the topic. Results should be presented using figures, tables, graphs, and diagrams, each accompanied by appropriate explanations.
  • 10. Discussion: The discussion section should comprise 20–30% of the total manuscript. It should interpret the results, compare them with existing studies, explain similarities and differences, discuss limitations, and highlight implications for future research.
  • 11. Conclusion: The conclusion summarizes the key findings, their theoretical, methodological, and practical significance, contributions to the field, and potential directions for future research.
  • 12. Acknowledgements: This section should acknowledge individuals, institutions, researchers, and funding organizations that contributed to the study. Funding sources, project titles, and grant numbers must be clearly stated.
  • 13. References: All cited scientific articles, books, reports, and other sources must be listed in the order of citation and numbered sequentially as [1], [2], [3], etc.
  1. GENERAL MANUSCRIPT REQUIREMENTS
  • 1. Manuscripts submitted for publication in the Institute’s scientific proceedings must be written in Mongolian. Only the Abstract shall be written in English. All figure labels and table contents must also be provided in Mongolian.
  • 2. The manuscript must be prepared on A4-sized paper (29.7 × 21.0 cm) and must not exceed six (6) pages, formatted in accordance with the following standards:

Paper size: 21.0 cm × 29.7 cm (A4)

Page layout: Two-column format, with a column width of 7.62 cm and a spacing of 0.75 cm between columns.

Page margins: Two margin settings shall be applied:

  • First page margins: Top 4.44 cm; Bottom 4.44 cm; Left 2.50 cm; Right 2.50 cm.
  • All subsequent pages: Top 3.17 cm; Bottom 3.17 cm; Left 2.50 cm; Right 2.50 cm.
  • 3. The manuscript must be prepared using Microsoft Word with the following specifications:
  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font size: 10 pt
  • Line spacing: line height 0.51 cm; minimum line spacing 12 pt; spacing before 0 pt; spacing after 6 pt
  • Layout: Two-column format, with a column width of 7.62 cm and 0.75 cm spacing between columns

The use of headers, footers, footnotes, and page numbering is not permitted. Note: These formatting requirements do not apply to the Abstract section.

  • 4. The following heading levels shall be used in the manuscript:
  • MAIN SECTION HEADINGS: Main section headings shall be formatted in Times New Roman, 11.5 pt, bold, aligned to the left, with all letters in uppercase. Line spacing shall be at least 12.05 pt, with spacing before 12 pt and after 9 pt. The manuscript must include the following sections: INTRODUCTION, MATERIALS AND METHODS, RESULTS, DISCUSSION, CONCLUSION, ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS, REFERENCES. These section headings shall be numbered using Roman numerals.
  • Subheadings: Subheadings shall begin at the left margin and be formatted in Times New Roman, 11.5 pt, bold italic, with line spacing at least 12.05 pt, spacing before 12 pt and after 9 pt.
  • Lower-level subheadings: Lower-level subheadings shall begin at the left margin and be formatted in Times New Roman, 11.5 pt, italic only (not bold), with single line spacing and spacing before 12 pt and after 9 pt.
  • Fourth-level headings (if required): If a fourth level of heading is necessary, it shall begin at the left margin and be formatted in Times New Roman, 10.5 pt, italic and underlined (not bold), with single line spacing and spacing before 12 pt and after 9 pt.
  • 5. The International System of Units (SI) shall be used throughout the manuscript. Units such as cm, mm, g, ha, etc., shall be written without punctuation marks between unit symbols. A single space must be placed between the numeral and the unit (e.g., 3 cm). Percentages presented in tables and figures shall be indicated using the percent symbol (%) without a space between the numeral and the symbol (e.g., 100%). Latin names of plant species and scientific units shall be written in italic. Terminology related to plants, soil, water, and forestry must conform to the nomenclature approved by the National Terminology Commission. Numbers from one to ten shall be written in words, while numbers eleven and above shall be written in numerals, except when:
  1. a sentence begins with a number; or
  2. the number is accompanied by a unit (e.g., 5 kg).

Thousands and millions shall be separated by a space rather than commas or periods (e.g., 10 000; ₮5 000).

  • 6. Photographs, drawings, and tables may be presented in color or black and white. Figures must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Scanned diagrams and photographs must be saved in JPEG format at 300 dpi and placed centrally within the text. The size of letters and numbers within figures must be equal to or no less than 85% of the main text font size. Figure dimensions must be appropriate for clear visual representation. Each figure must include a caption, which shall be placed at the lower-left corner of the figure. Figures must be positioned only at the top or bottom of the page. The width of the figure should be adjusted to fit either one or two columns. Figure numbering must follow the format (Figure 1.), using Times New Roman font, 10 pt, in bold style.
    • Tables must be prepared using the “Table” function in Microsoft Word. The table number and title shall be placed on the same line above the table. Numbering must follow the format (Table 1.), using Times New Roman font, 9 pt, positioned at the upper-left corner above the corresponding table. Horizontal borders should be used within tables. Table footnotes must be written in 9 pt font size, left-aligned, with each footnote beginning on a new line. Statistical significance may be indicated as follows: p < 0.10; p < 0.05; p < 0.01; p < 0.001. The header row (first row) of the table must have a background color of Blue Accent 1 (R: 91, G: 155, B: 213). The text of the row containing the names in the first row of the table is required (Bold).
  • 7. Captions for figures and diagrams shall be centered below the respective item, with the figure number placed before the caption text.
  • 8. Equations must be created using the Equation tool in Microsoft Word. The font size of mathematical expressions shall be 10 pt, and equations shall be centered on the line. Equation numbers shall be placed at the end of the line in parentheses (e.g., (1)).
  • 9. When abbreviations are used, the full term must be provided at first mention, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses (e.g., Academy of Sciences (AS)). Periods shall not be used in most abbreviations. Country names must not be abbreviated (e.g., United States of America, not USA).

GENERAL MANUSCRIPT REQUIREMENTS

Plagiarism

  • Mongolian Journal of Geography and Geoecology is strictly AGAINST Plagiarism, an unethical act of copying someone else’s ideas, results, processes, or texts.
  • Therefore, all the submitted manuscripts will be checked for plagiarism using anti-plagiarism professional software before starting the initial review.
  • If the plagiarism is detected, up to 30% plagiarism, the manuscript will be sent to the authors for revision.
  • If more than >30% plagiarism is detected, the manuscript will be rejected without review. The authors will be asked to revise and resubmit the revised manuscript.

Duplication

  • As the Mongolian Journal of Geography and Geoecology publishes original research, it does NOT accept any Duplicate publications that reuse substantial parts of their previously published work.
  • All the submitted manuscripts will be checked carefully for duplication, at the same time of plagiarism checking, before starting the initial review.
  • If the duplication is detected, the manuscript will be sent to the authors either for revision or will be rejected.

(BY ARTICLE STRUCTURE)

  • 1. Article title: The article title shall be formatted in Times New Roman, 20 pt, written in sentence case (only the first letter of the first word capitalized, with all other words in lowercase), bold, centered, and presented in a single column. Spacing before the title shall be 36 pt, with single line spacing. If a subtitle is included, it shall be formatted in Times New Roman, 16 pt, and italic.
  • 2. Author name(s): Author names shall be placed directly below the article title and formatted in Times New Roman, 14 pt, center-aligned, with 1.5 line spacing, spacing before 6 pt and spacing after 6 pt. Authors’ first and last names must be written in full. Superscript numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.) shall be used to indicate institutional affiliations. The corresponding author shall be indicated by an asterisk (*) following the affiliation number. Authors from the same institution shall share the same superscript number. Examples of author name formatting:
  • In Mongolian (author’s given name followed by family name): Баяртунгалаг Батсайхан1,*, Дашцэрэн Авирмэд1, Сономдагва Чонохүү2
  • In English (First name followed by Last name): Bayartungalag Batsaikhan¹,*, Dashtseren Avirmed¹, Sonomdagva Chonokhuu²
  • 3. Affiliation(s): Institutional affiliations shall not be abbreviated. Affiliations shall be listed immediately below the author names, without additional spacing, and shall include the department, institution name, province/city, and country. Affiliations shall be formatted in Times New Roman, 10 pt, italic, left-aligned, with single line spacing, and presented in a single column.
  • 4. Corresponding author’s e-mail address: The corresponding author’s e-mail address shall be formatted in Times New Roman, 10 pt, italic, left-aligned, without underlining, with 1.5 line spacing and spacing after 6 pt.
  • 5. Abstract: The abstract shall consist of 15–20 lines and be formatted in Times New Roman, 10 pt, center-aligned, with a minimum line spacing of 13 pt.
  • 6. Keywords: Keywords shall be listed below the abstract and shall not exceed five (5) terms. Keywords shall be formatted in Times New Roman, 11 pt, italic, center-aligned, with a minimum line spacing of 13 pt, spacing before 12 pt, and spacing after 22 pt, and presented in a single column.
  • 7. Section headings and numbering: The section titles specified in Sections 1.7–1.11 of these guidelines shall be formatted in accordance with the requirements specified in Section 2.4(a). The titles specified in Sections 1.12 and 1.13, namely Acknowledgements and References, shall not be numbered. All body text within these sections shall comply with the formatting requirements specified in Section 2.3.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CITATIONS

AND REFERENCES

  • The list of cited literature shall be presented under the heading REFERENCES, formatted in Times New Roman, 10 pt, and placed immediately after the Acknowledgements section.
  • Citation numbers shall be assigned sequentially throughout the manuscript and enclosed in square brackets (e.g., [1]). Punctuation marks such as commas and periods shall appear after the closing bracket.
  • References shall be listed in the order in which they appear in the text.
  • Reference lists shall be prepared according to the IEEE (Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers) citation style. The use of reference management software such as Zotero or Mendeley is recommended.

OTHER PROVISIONS

  • Informational scientific works and popular science articles may be submitted without a conclusion section.
  • Manuscripts and informational materials submitted for publication must be provided in printed form along with an electronic file and submitted to the responsible editorial board.
  • Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript is carefully checked for language quality, clarity of expression, and grammatical accuracy prior to submission.
  • All works cited in the text must be included in the reference list, and all items listed in the references must be cited in the manuscript.
  • The total number of figures and tables shall not exceed eight (8). Authors are advised to avoid including secondary figures, supplementary illustrations, graphical duplicates, or excessively large tables in the supplementary materials.
  • Scientific articles must not exceed six (6) A4 pages and shall be submitted in Microsoft Word format.

 

НЭГ. ЭРДЭМ ШИНЖИЛГЭЭНИЙ ӨГҮҮЛЛИЙН БҮТЭЦ

Эрдэм шинжилгээний өгүүлэл нь дараах бүтэцтэй байна. Үүнд:

Оршил дараах агуулгатай байна. Үүнд: Судалгааны зорилго, зорилт (дэвшүүлсэн таамаглал), тухайн асуудлын судлагдсан байдал (эшлэл авах), тулгамдаж буй асуудал, судалгааны ач холбогдол, дэвшүүлж байгаа асуудлын шинэлэг тал гэх мэт.
  • 8. Судалгааны аргазүй: Тухайн судалгаанд ашигласан аргазүйг дэлгэрэнгүй бичих бөгөөд судалгаа явуулсан газар, дээжийн шинж чанар (хөрс, ус, ургамал), дээж авсан болон шинжилгээний арга зүй зэргийг дэлгэрэнгүй оруулна. Үүнд: судалгаанд ашигласан аргазүй, судалгааны хэрэглэгдэхүүн, туршилт, судалгаа явуулсан газар, хугацаа, задлан шинжилсэн аргазүй, үр дүн гэх мэт.
  • 9. Судалгааны үр дүн: Тухайн судалгааны арга зүйн дагуу ямар үр дүн гарсан эдгээр нь бусад судлаачдынхаас ямар ялгаатай, ямар сул болон давуу талтай болохыг зөвхөн тухайн сэдвийн хүрээнд харьцуулан дэлгэрэнгүй өгүүлсэн байна. Судалгааны үр дүнг зураг, график, хүснэгт, диаграмм зэргээр илэрхийлж, тайлбарыг бичнэ.
  • 10. Хэлэлцүүлэг: Хэлэлцүүлэг хэсэг нь нийт бичвэрийн 20-30% байх бөгөөд судалгааны өнөөгийн болон цаашид хийгдэх ажлыг тусгана. Энэ хэсэгт тухайн ажлын хүрээнд гарсан урьдчилсан дүгнэлтүүдийг хэрхэн сайжруулах, тухайн сэдвээр бусад судлаачдын явуулсан судалгааны дүнтэй харьцуулалт хийж дэлгэрэнгүй тайлбарлан бичнэ.
  • 11. Дүгнэлт: Судалгааны ажлын нэгдсэн үр дүн, тэдгээрийн онол-аргазүй, практик ач холбогдол, салбарт оруулж буй хувь нэмэр болон цаашид хөгжүүлэх боломж зэргийг тусгана.

  • Нэгжийн олон улсын систем (SI) ашиглана. Тухайлбал хэмжигдэхүүнүүдийг см, мм, г, га гэх мэт нэгжээр бичихдээ хоосон зай эсвэл цэг, таслал ашиглахгүй. Гэхдээ тоо болон нэгжийг хооронд нь нэг хоосон зайгаар заавал тусгаарласан байна (3 см). Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Privacy Statement

Mongolia Journals Online (MongoliaJOL) is a member of the Ubiquity Partner Network coordinated by Ubiquity Press. According to the EU definitions, MongoliaJOL is the data controller, and Ubiquity Press are the service providers and data processors. Ubiquity Press provide the technical platform and some publishing services to MongoliaJOL and operate under the principle of data minimisation where only the minimal amount of personal data that is required to carry out a task is obtained.

Ubiquity Press Privacy Policy

We take seriously our duty to process your personal data in a fair and transparent way. We collect and manage user data according to the following Privacy Policy. This document is part of our Terms of Service, and by using the press portal, affiliated journals, book, conference and repository websites (the “Websites”), you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service. Please read the Terms of Service in their entirety, and refer to those for definitions and contacts.

What type of personal data do we handle?

There are four main categories of personal data stored by our journal platform, our press platform, and our book management system; Website User data, Author data, Reviewer data and Editor data.

The minimum personal data that are stored are:

  • full name
  • email address
  • affiliation (department, and institution)
  • country of residence

Optionally, the user can provide:

  • salutation
  • gender
  • associated URL
  • phone number
  • fax number
  • reviewing interests
  • mailing address
  • ORCiD
  • a short biography
  • interests
  • Twitter profile
  • LinkedIn profile
  • ImpactStory profile
  • profile picture

The data subjects have complete control of this data through their profile, and can request for it to be removed by contacting info@ubiquitypress.com

What do we do to keep that data secure?

We regularly backup our databases, and we use reliable cloud service providers (Amazon, Google Cloud, Linode) to ensure they are kept securely. Backups are regularly rotated and the old data is permanently deleted. We have a clear internal data handling policy, restricting access to the data and backups to key employees only. In case of a data breach, we will report the breach to the affected users, and to the press/journal contacts within 72 hours.

How do we use the data?

Personal information is only used to deliver the services provided by the publisher. Personal data is not shared externally except for author names, affiliations, emails, and links to ORCiD and social media accounts (if provided) in published articles and books which are displayed as part of the article/book and shared externally to indexes and databases. If a journal operates under open peer review then the reviewer details are published alongside the reviewer details.

How we collect and use your data:

1. When using the website

1.1 what data we collect

  • When you browse our website, we collect anonymised data about your use of the website; for example, we collect information about which pages you view, which files you download, what browser you are using, and when you were using the site.
  • When you comment on an article or book using Disqus, we are not collecting, controlling or processing the data. More details on the DISQUS privacy policy can be found on their website.
  • When you annotate an article or book, this is done via a 3rd party plugin to the website called Hypothes.is. In using this plugin we are not collecting, controlling or processing the data. More details on the Hypothes.is privacy policy can be found on their website.

1.2 why we collect the data

  • We use anonymised website usage data to monitor traffic, help fix bugs, and see overall patterns that inform future redesigns of the website, and provide reports on how frequently the publications on our site have been accessed from within their IP ranges.

1.3 what we do (and don’t do) with the data

  • We do not collect personal information that can be used to identify you when you browse the website.
  • We currently use Google Analytics for publication reports, and to improve the website and services through traffic analysis, but no personal identifying data is shared with Google (for example your computer’s IP is anonymised before transmission).

1.4 what to do if you want to get a copy of your data, or want your data to be removed

2. When registering as an author, and submitting an article or book

2.1 what data we collect

  • When registering an account we ask you to log in and provide certain personal information (such as your name and email address), and there is the option to register using an ORCiD which will pre-fill the registration form.
  • As part of submitting an article for publication, you will need to provide personally identifying information which will be used for the peer review process, and will be published. This can include ‘Affiliation’, ‘Competing interests’, ‘Acknowledgements’.

2.2 why we collect the data

  • Registering an account allows you to log in, manage your profile, and participate as an author/reviewer/editor. We use cookies and session information to streamline your use of the website (for example in order for you to remain logged-in when you return to a journal). You can block or delete cookies and still be able to use the websites, although if you do you will then need to enter your username and password to login. In order to take advantage of certain features of the websites, you may also choose to provide us with other personal information, such as your ORCiD, but your decision to utilize these features and provide such data will always be voluntary.
  • Personal data submitted with the article or book is collected to allow follow good publication ethics during the review process, and will form part of the official published record in order for the provenance of the work to be established, and for the work to be correctly attributed.

2.3 what we do (and don’t do) with the data

  • We do not share your personal information with third parties, other than as part of providing the publishing service.
  • As a registered author in the system you may be contacted by the journal editor to submit another article.
  • Any books published on the platform are freely available to download from the publisher website in PDF, EPUB and MOBI formats on the publisher’s site.
  • Any personal data accompanying an article or a book (that will have been added by the submitting author) is published alongside it. The published data includes the names, affiliations and email addresses of all authors.
  • Any articles published on the platform are freely available to download from the publisher website in various formats (e.g. PDF, XML).
  • Ubiquity Press books and articles are typeset by SiliconChips and Diacritech.This process involves them receiving the book and book associated metadata and contacting the authors to finalise the layout. Ubiquity Press work with these suppliers to ensure that personal data is only used for the purposes of typesetting and proofing.
  • For physical purchases of books on the platform Ubiquity Press use print on demand services via Lightning Source who are responsible for printing and distribution via retailers. (For example; Amazon, Book Repository, Waterstones). Lightning Source’s privacy policy and details on data handling can be found on their website.

2.4 why we store the data

  • We store the account data so that you may choose to become a reviewer and be able to perform those tasks, or to become an author and submit an article and then track progress of that article.
  • Published personal data that accompanies an article or a book forms part of the official published record in order for the provenance of the work to be established, and for the work to be correctly attributed.

2.5 what to do if you want to get a copy of your data, or want your data to be removed

  • You are able to view, change and remove your data associated with your profile. Should you choose to completely delete your account, please contact us at support@ubiquitypress.com and we will follow up with your request as soon as possible.
  • To conform to publication ethics and best practice any personal data that is published alongside an article or book cannot be removed. If you have a query about a publication to which you are attributed please contact info@ubiquitypress.com

3. When registering as a reviewer

3.1 what data we collect

  • To become a reviewer you must first register as a user on the website, and set your preference that you would like to be considered as a reviewer. No new personal data is collected when a registered user elects to become a reviewer.
  • When registering an account we ask you to log in and provide certain personal information (such as your name and email address), and there is the option to register using an ORCiD which will pre-fill the registration form.
  • Reviewers can also be registered by editors who invite them to review a specific article. This requires the editor to provide the reviewer’s First Name, Last Name, and Email address. Normally this will be done as part of the process of inviting you to review the article or book.
  • On submitting a review, the reviewer includes a competing interest statement, they may answer questions about the quality of the article, and they will submit their recommendation.

3.2 why we collect the data

  • The data entered is used to invite the reviewer to peer review the article or book, and to contact the reviewer during and the review process.
  • If you submit a review then the details of your review, including your recommendation, your responses to any review form, your free-form responses, your competing interests statement, and any cover letter are recorded.

3.3 what we do (and don’t do) with the data

  • This data is not shared publicly and is only accessible by the Editor and system administrators of that journal or press.
  • The data will only be used in connection with that journal or press.
  • Data that is retained post final decision is kept to conform to publication ethics and best practice, to provide evidence of peer review, and to resolve any disputes relating to the peer review of the article or book.
  • For journals or presses that publish the peer reviews, you will be asked to give consent to your review being published, and a subset of the data you have submitted will become part of the published record.

3.4 what to do if you want to get a copy of your data, or want your data to be removed

  • If you would no longer like to be registered as a reviewer you can edit your profile and tick the box ‘stop being a reviewer’. This will remove you from the reviewer database, however any existing reviews you may have carried out will remain.
  • If you have been contacted by an editor to peer review an article this means that you have been registered in the system. If you would not like to be contacted for peer review you can reply to the email requesting that your data be deleted.

4. When being registered as a co-author

4.1 what data we collect

  • Co-author data is entered by the submitting author. The submitting author will already have a user account. According to standard publishing practice, the submitting author is responsible for obtaining the consent of their co-authors to be included (including having their personal data included) in the article/book being submitted to the journal/press.
  • The requested personal data for co-authors are at the bare minimum; first name, last name, institution, country, email address. This can also include; ORCID ID, Title, Middle Name, Biographical Statement, Department, Twitter Handle, Linkedin Profile Name or ImpactStory ID.

4.2 why we collect the data

  • Assuming that it is accepted for publication, this data forms part of the official published record in order for the provenance of the work to be established, and for the work to be correctly attributed.
  • Author names, affiliations and emails are required for publication and will become part of the permanent cited record.

4.3 what we do (and don’t do) with the data

  • The co-author’s personal data is stored in the author database. This personal data is only used in relation to the publication of the associated article.
  • Any co-author data collected is added to the author database and is only used in association with the article the user is co-author on.

4.5 what to do if you want to get a copy of your data, or want your data to be removed

  • All emails sent via our newsletter client will include a link that will allow you to unsubscribe from the mailing list

Notification about change of ownership or of control of data

We may choose to buy or sell assets. In the case that control of data changes to or from Ubiquity Press and a third party, or in the case of change of ownership of Ubiquity Press or of part of the business where the control of personal data is transferred, we will do our best to inform all affected users and present the options.
